In the process of cleaning my room (the room I spent more than half of my childhood in, the room I just moved back into after not living in for four years a.k.a. there was a lot of stuff just stashed in random places room), I have discovered lots of little pieces of papers, post-its, business cards, what-have-yous with notes on them, either that I noted to myself or received. Sometimes I remember what they mean or what they come from, frequently I don't. I am going to share a few. Feel free to claim you're the one who said any of them. This may become a new series (if I ever resume regular posting), semi-inspired by Erica's affinity for my (is "to" actually the correct word here?) letter series.
"Looks like a 502, he's really weaving." "Give him a ball of yarn; he could make us both a sweater."
"Call him on it, be like, 'that dog just ain't gonna hunt.' Yeah, maybe the idiom is too much, but my point remains." (okay, honestly, I now remember exactly who said this and what/who it was about, but I didn't when I found it and it's kinda too much to get into for a blog post but makes me chuckle and thus I deem it post-worthy).
Perhaps a good way to remember the order of the streets downtown: "Wouldn't it be grand to hope to pick flowers on Figueroa?"
"1848 was charming only through an excess of the ridiculous"
"It is not theft to steal from thieves; it is merely irony."
OK, this last one I wrote down sometime during 2006. I know this because other stuff on the paper happened that year. I also know gkla told/IMed/somethinged this to me, but I have no idea what it is referencing: "Laura, you may now proudly say of yourself, "Today I was riding dirty." So fantastically dated, right?!

Recursion (maybe, I'm not exactly sure about the definition of this term)

Emergency! was a spinoff of Adam-12 which was a spinoff of Dragnet. One of the main doctors on Emergency! is in a cameo on this Dragnet episode! crazy prescient recursion?!

I miss Adam-12 marathons.
Dear TV Land,
I feel like I have written this letter many times, but, if I haven't already, it's about time! While I do appreciate Hogan's Heroes being brought back, that is not nearly enough to make up for all the grave programming mistakes you have made.
The first error was to play shows that were on TV originally during my lifetime. I am not old enough for this! I was mildly agitated with Wings and quite annoyed about Full House, but The George Lopez Show? Come on! And then now you start having "original programming." But only the worst possible original programming--the exact opposite of the quality shows you previously aired. Going from Mary Tyler Moore to High School Reunion? And now this She's Got the Look, which plays Coldplay snippets every four minutes. The upcoming Family Foreman looks beyond absurd.
TV Land, get your act together.

rolling with the Holm(i)es

So, apparently Angela Lansbury was at Royce on Thursday and nobody bothered telling me until today. A little late, no? Angela Lansbury!!! Man, she is as good a mystery solver as Sherlock Holmes, I am sure. And then of course there is the inimitable Bedknobs and Broomsticks. She perhaps would have been my fav Royce celeb; too bad I wasn't there! boooooooo.
In other Murder, She Wrote (MSW) news: I am almost at a point in my MSW watching career in which I can claim that actors from all my favorite shows have had guest roles on MSW. This weekend I have watched two episodes with some rad folks. Kevin Tighe, of Emergency!, played Lt. Moynihan in the 1990 episode, "How to Make a Killing Without Even Trying" and Martin Milner, of Adam-12, played Sheriff Bodine in the 1985 episode, "Reflections of the Mind." Adam-12 was one of the most technically accurate police dramas, by the way, and AMAZING. Earlier posts have explained previous appearances by Ellery Queen stars, but I don't know yet if I have seen any Hogan's Heroes crossovers (Although Bob Crane was once on an episode of Ellery Queen entitled "The Hard-Hearted Huckster"--what a great title, right?). That's what I am waiting for.
On a side note, I am beginning a collection of photos of those stamps in the sidewalk. Does anyone know what they are called exactly? This one above is taken on a street that is perpendicular to Echo Park Lake, if I remember correctly.
Edit: I didn't remember correctly. This one was somewhere in Koreatown.

1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, 459 suspect there now.
It is 11:08pm and I am at home! Fab. Too bad I still have to write two response papers that were due last week. oy!
In a case of real life imitating art, the 6oclock news informed me that someone stole a mother's car which had a bunch of Christmas presents for her kids in its trunk. And the LAPD saved the day. Of course, Adam-12 did it a little better. It was the day of Christmas Eve and they found it just in time. Plus, I am pretty sure there was a snake involved somehow. (Officer Pete Malloy was afraid of snakes). This is my second favorite television programme of all time. You should check it out, folks.
Today, after my lovely two hour nap (since I had to wake up at 7am for a final--oy!), I watched disc two of The Johnny Cash Show DVD. While the DVD itself isn't so well put together, there are some super solid performances. Roy Orbison did the classic "Cryin';" Neil Diamond did some song or another super excellently--I now know why my mom thinks he is attractive. Also, it was pretty awesome to see Eric Clapton, as part of Derek and the Dominoes, perform with Carl Perkins and seem so in awe, especially after a whole quarter of blues history and kinda hating Eric Clapton.
I think these are really awesome. Now whether or not they would actually look good on any man is another question. Still, awesome.
Ummm, so I can fit a picture in here and make this post prettier in a somewhat related way. The following picture is related to school. yay, it fits!
